Last September this blog picked up an incoming link from the blog of a woman named Alex Remy. In her post, “Reoccurring [sic] nightmare: I am pregnant and cannot find an abortion clinic”, she laments that pro-choicers—unlike pro-lifers—don’t do enough to make their case.
She’s right. Pro-choicers don’t do enough to make their case. But Remy misses the reason why: when it comes right down to it, it’s hard to make a good case for killing unborn babies. That’s why so often pro-choicers prefer to demonize pro-lifers.
That’s exactly what Remy does, and that’s where she links to this blog. She complains about “anti-abortion advocates, who frequently produce far beyond the replacement rate”, and links to my bio page, which mentions my eight children.

Several people have expressed curiosity about the reference to “vandalism” in my sketchy notes to Sarah Paraskeva’s birth story. I’m impressed that people are actually reading the notes, which are there to help me finally finish the full account of her birth story.
Unfortunately, I could not get a photo of the “vandalized note” in question to come out. But I do have a picture of me with “Baby William” which will give you an idea of what kind of state I was in after three days pacing around hospital rooms. William was fashioned from a blown-up surgical glove, onto which I drew a face: the thumb became William’s nose; the fingers his Mohawk.
William was “born” when my seven other children were visiting us the evening after Sarah was born. For some reason they let the whole crew in there at once, and Daddy got rather silly. Another silliness was my “vandalism” of the note that had been taped onto Sarah’s bassinet.

We’re back from the hospital and Sarah Paraskeva’s personal website is ready! Read all about her birth, get all the vital stats, learn about her unusual name, and best of all see lots of pictures of my littlest little girl.
God is good! Praised be His Holy Name forever! In his mercy he has blessed me to be the father of six girls—no fewer than six! Nor has he forgotten to give me sons, two of them, older brothers to help me nurture protect these precious sisters and daughters.
I invite you to share my joy by meeting this newest Scheidler daughter.

. . . was born today at 12:15 p.m. after a long, slow labor that began late Tuesday evening. We’ve scarcely slept these last three days, and unfortunately all my photos of this beautiful little girl are trapped on my camera, for I write this from the library at Rush University across the street from the hospital. But here’s an ultrasound from last week as a teaser, and I’ll say more in a couple days when we’re back home and a bit more rested.

I came upon a post recently by one Father Joe, priest in Maryland, in which he criticized the notion husbands and wives confront a demonic struggle in the midst of their marriage, and that to be victorious in this struggle they would do well to employ fasting, singled out by Jesus as particularly effective for casting out demons. Fr. Joe writes:
“Marriages are not principally about powers and principalities, they are about dirty diapers, crying babies, doctors’ bills, making beds, fixing the car, going to church as a family, sleeping as husband and wife naked together under the covers, and so much more.”
Unfortunately, my comments in reponse to this passage were removed from the blog. I offer them here—not to give new life to my dispute with Fr. Joe about what he wrote, which was in response to a particular set of circumstances, but because I wish to share what I hope are a few worthy thoughts.
