Eric’s Fist Full of Lemon Bars

Posted by Eric (December 24, 2009 at 1:50 pm)

Today I’m making lemon bars, and they shall be very lemony indeed.

Lemon bars recipe researchI am what you might call a recipe “aggregator”—when I decide to try a new recipe, I look at a half dozen or more recipes online at favorite sites like All Recipes and the Food Network, and then mix them together on the general principle of putting in the largest amount of each ingredient given across all the recipes—especially the ingredients that are butter.

The Worst Thing About Airports . . .

Posted by Eric (July 23, 2008 at 7:53 pm)

United 625There are so many horrible things about airports, and I might usually name the indignity of removing one’s shoes as chiefest, but right now what I really hate about this airport, Washington Reagan, is that I can’t go outside—not without going back out through security.

The massive storm that delayed and than canceled my flight is now passing over. From the looks of it, it’s a deluge—skies blackened and flickering with lightening, waves of rain sweeping the tarmac. I love a good storm, but this one I can neither hear nor feel.

It would be some consolation for the tedium of sitting here at the gate to stand outside and feel the wind and thunder, to hear violence of the downpour. But you’re all locked up at an airport.

Fortunately, I sweet-talked my way onto an earlier flight—the 4:35 back to Chicago, which is predicted to depart at 9:10. Unlikely, since that’s only ten minutes from now and we haven’t even borded. In any case, it hasn’t been canceled yet.

Lemmings for Obama

Posted by Eric (February 13, 2007 at 10:20 am)

Lemmings for ObamaAt our protest at the Barack Obama presidential candidacy announcement, we got a chuckle from this guy’s sign: Lemmings for Obama. As things were winding down, I walked over and talked to him a bit.

“That’s an interesting sign,” I said. “What’s it all about?” He told me he wanted to make the point that people don’t know what they’re supporting.

“So what are some of the kinds of things the people out here don’t know about Obama?” I asked. (more…)

Unbroken Chain of Weirdness

Posted by Eric (December 30, 2006 at 10:29 pm)

Eric in PAThanks, Matt. Seems I’ve been “tagged” and now I have to tell six weird things about myself as well as “tag” six friends—that is to say, six people who will have been my friends up until I impose this sort of “chain letter of weirdness” on them.

So, six weird things about me:

  1. The first weird thing about me is that I’m not all that eager to reveal weird personal things on in public. That is, as far as I’m concerned, a normal thing about me, but not so in the blogosphere. From that, you might conclude that the five weird things to follow are not the very weirdest things about me.
  2. (more…)
